This is a very attractive colorful viable showy flowering vine that is native to South American region. Previously this flower was known as Passiflora coccinea but recently it is moved into Passiflora miniata Vanderplank. This plant belongs to the family Passifloraceae. Common name of the flower is Red or Scarlet passion flower. Most of the passion flowers are known as Jhumka Ful(ঝুমকা ফুল) in our country Bangladesh.





This is a very fast growing evergreen tropical perennial vine plant. Leafs are green to dark green in color and not lobbed. Simple leafs are oval or ovate in shaped and having toothed at margin of both sides. This plant can be invasive when grounded. It can spread by rooting from it's stem easily. This plant can be poisonous if ingested.





Delicate red flowers(3-4 inches diameter) use to bloom between late winter to spring. It has 10 petals where five are petal and other five are sepals. Normally a flower lasts around a day at max. Edible fruit can be generated from the flower after a successful pollination. Hummingbirds, butterflies and other Beatles are attracted by the strikingly red color of the flower.





Propagation of the plant is done by seeds, roots, bulbs, rhizomes, or by woody stem cutting, etc.
