Last year I have written an article about another flower which is almost similar to today's flower. This is known as Asiatic dayflower. Botanical name of the flower is Commelina communis. It belongs to the plant family Commelinaceae. There are several flowers around our country which are having almost same outlook. All such flowers are known as Kanchira(কানচিরা), kanchura(কানচুরা), kanpet(কানপেট) in our locality.

This dayflower is having in fact three leafs. Two petals are prominent and having blue or light blue in color. Another petal is white and very small, also hard to notice. There were three Dutch botanist having name Commelin. Two of those botanists were shined brightly in their career, but the other one died on very early at his career. Which is similar to tree petals of the flower. So now you understood what the Commelina actually signifying.

Commelina is actually herbaceous annual plant which is native to East Asia and India. This can be an erect plant, or sprawling around the ground. Leafs are slight larger and linear in shape. Mostly the flower blooms as cluster having 4/5 single flower. Very few are seen with single flower. Flowers are not having any noticeable fragrance.

In China, people are using this as medicinal plant for treatment of sore throats and tonsils. Also, this plant is using as vegetable and fodder crop in India and China.

Photos of this article were taken from Bandarban(বান্দরবান). I was on a trekking there during August 2012.
