Foxglove is a flower that is native to the European region. It doesn't grow naturally in our country Bangladesh. Botanical name of this herbaceous plant is Digitalis purpurea. It belongs to the plant family Plantaginaceae (Isubgul family). This ornamental flower is perfect for the landscaping at gardens.
Foxglove is mainly a biennial plant (that means it takes around 2 years to grow, then bring flower and then dies). At some places this plant is marked as short lived perennial as well. This plant can grow up to 6 ft in height. Leafs are arranged spirally around the stem, wooly in texture, having a shape of spoon and toothed at the border.
It takes more than a year to develop the flowering stem on the plant. Actually the color of this flower was purple. But later the cultivators have developed other colors (i.e. white, used in my blog). Flowers bloom around the stalk as a cluster. Each of the small flowers is having a shape of a glove for finger (that means tubular shaped). Inside the flower it has lot of dots (in my case it was maroon dots inside the white flower).
Though the whole plant (including seeds) is poisonous, but it is used as a medicine against the heart failure. You can read more about this from wikipedia.
