Today I am going to introduce a wild flower, and I know very little about this flower and the plant. In fact I didn't find any English or Bengali name of this flower, except the botanical name. And it is Hewittia malabarica. Someone named 'Linnaeus Suresh' was first introduced this flower on his book during 1988, not to many years back!
This is a morning glory flower and belongs to the plant family Convolvulaceae. It is native to African and Asian region. During one rainy day I have found this plant on Khagrachhori (খাগড়াছড়ি). It was slightly further from the Resung waterfall (রিসাং ঝরনা). It was just a small vine plant with 3-4 feet in length with only few couple of leafs and two flowers blooming. It had a heavy rain after that moment, and during my returning I saw the flowers were totally ripped off by the drops from the rain.
It is a small growing perennial (or annual?) climber vine that can reach up to several feet in length. The plant uses to sprawl over the ground. The color of the flower is maroon or dark brown. Leafs use to emerge upwards from the stem like other morning glory flowers. Leafs are having a long petiole (same color of stem) and having a cut like heart. leafs are narrower near the lower side.
Flowers are typical morning glory flower having a color of yellow or pale yellow. Center of the flower is dark red or maroon colored. Leafs are crappy, and having a star formed in it. Flowers are having five stamens inside surrounding around a stigma. Flowers use to emerge from the axil of the petiole and stem.
I may be wrong about this identification. If you know more than me, then please share as a comment.
