Magnolia is a very beautiful flowering plant from plant family Magnoliaceae (where all other Magnolia flowering plant reside). This is the biggest Magnolia amongst all. That's why its botanical name is Magnolia grandiflora. This is native to Southern part of American region, more specifically Florida, Texas, etc. That's why the plant is known as Southern Magnolia. In my country this flower is known as Udoypoddo, Heem chapa, etc.

Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) is a medium to tall growing evergreen plant. The plant usually has only single trunk. The leafs are leathery and glossy. Broad leafs are ovate shaped. Upper side of leaf is green, dark green color, and under side is brownish. Being a single trunk, the plant often grows as a shape of pyramid.

Flowers of magnolia are strikingly beautiful. They are large flower and snow white in color. Cup shaped flower has 6-12 spoon shaped waxy petals. Flowers usually bloom on a mature tree during spring. Flowers are fragrant.

Southern magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora) is a very popular ornamental plant. But the timber of the plant is very hard and heavy, which is good for making furnitures. That's why people commercially cultivate this for timber as well.
