This is a very common flower in many countries, but the origin of this is South America (specially in Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, etc). Binomial name of this herbaceous flowering plant is Portulaca grandiflora. It has a lot of fancy common names such as Mose rose, Mexican rose, Sun rose, etc. This is also known as Nine o'clock, Ten o'clock as it blooms in the morning. This plant belongs to the plant family Portulacaceae. In Bangladesh this plant is known as Time ful as it blooms in a particular time in morning.
Moss rose (Portulaca grandiflora) is a succulent herbaceous plant. This plant has a lot of soft, slim, and small leafs which are oppositely arranged around the stem. This is a fast growing ground covering plant. It can grow from the cutting very easily. In many tropical countries this plant has a demand as an ornamental plant.
Flowers of Moss rose (Portulaca grandiflora) are very showy and bright in color. Round shaped flowers are having a diameter of an inch. Most common colours of the plant are seen white and purple, but it has many cultivars which are in yellow, red, etc colors. This flower blooms early in the morning as if it is following a clock's time. That's why it is known as Nine o'clock flower.
