Japanese quince is a hybrid from Quince flower. Basically most of the quince flowers are native to East Asia but now a days grows everywhere. Botanical name of this hybrid flower is Chaenomeles x superba. It belongs to the plant family Rosaceae.
Japanese quince (Chaenomeles x superba) is a very fast growing hybrid plant. This is a spreading shrub (grows as a vine) but deciduous. Plant has thorn. Leafs are simple, small, and lens shaped with toothed at margin. Leafs are slightly smoother at upper side and rough at underside.
Japanese quince flowers are very attractive, and can be in red or white (I have seen only these twos). Flowers bloom in a cluster. Each of the flowers are having five petals. Flower is having a style surrounded by plenty of stamens (hermaphrodite, means same flower has both male and female organs). Flower with bract all together have a shape of cup (which is known as hypanthium). A plant brings plenty of flowers during blooming season (spring to summer).
Chaenomeles x superba grows as a woody vine in a hedge.
Photos of Japanese quince (Chaenomeles x superba) were taken from Ireland in different times of the year. Bright photos were taken during summer.
