It is time to know more about the Red mussaenda flower. It belongs to the plant family Rubiaceae. This specific red one is known as Mussaenda erythrophylla botanically. This flower has different names in the different parts of the world. For example Ashanti blood, Red Flag Bush, Red Mussaenda, Tropical Dogwood, Prophet’s Tears, Virgin Tree, etc. This plant is native to West Africa.
Ashanti blood (Mussaenda erythrophylla) is a shrubby perennial plant and required full sun light for proper growth. Plant can reach up to 6-8 feet in height and 4-6 feet in width (spreading). Oppositely arranged leafs are slightly broad and having visible veins. Leafs are slightly hair as well. It is possible to grow new plant from the stem cutting or using the seeds, though the seeds are almost rare.
Plant produces large sepals beneath the flower. Sepals are red in color and kind of foamy when you touch it. Ashanti blood (Mussaenda erythrophylla) flowers are having five petals (yellow or cream color from upside, and bottom side is red) and has a red spot at the middle of five petals, almost looks like an eye. Both the sepals and the flowers are too much hairy. It's a cluster flower as well as an inflorescence.
