Purple Lantana Flower

The flower of today's article is Lantana and it is a member of Verbenaceae plant family. Botanical name of the flower is Lantana Camara var. aculeata. Though this is considered as an ornamental flower in some places, but it is known as an invasive weed from where Bangladesh and India. This plant is native to Tropical America and brought to Indian sub-continent by the European traders. In Bangladesh the plant is known as Lantana.





This is an evergreen plant having the height of 6-8 ft and grows as a bush. The leafs and the stems of Lantana (Lantana camara) plant has some rough hairs, and it will create a rough pungent smell if you'd squeeze that. Leafs are broadly ovate with visible texture. Flower uses to change its color with age. So you'd find this between pink to yellow or white to yellow.





Lantana (Lantana camara) is as an invasive weed. The seeds of this plant uses to spread by the birds. It uses to grow quickly and it's really hard to remove the plant completely later on. This plant has a resistance to the fire. Also after the burning, this plant uses to grow faster compare to other neighboring plants around. Which eventually helps them to dominate the area.
