Jungle geranium - Ixora Coccinea


Jungle geranium is an exotic bright red flower that is native to Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka. In Bangladesh this is known as Rongon. It has several common names such as Flame of the woods, Jungle flame, etc. Botanical name of the plant is Ixora Coccineaand belongs to the plant family Rubiaceae (coffee family).

Jungle geranium (Ixora Coccinea) plant uses to be 4-6 feet tall on an average, but can reach up to 10-12 feet. The plant is shrubby and grows as a bush. People plant this tree at their garden for beautification. It is possible to control the shape of this plant, and people use to give a nice looking shape by pruning the edges. Something like doing sculpture over the plants.

Jungle geranium (Ixora Coccinea) uses to bloom as a cluster at the top of branch. Each flower cluster comprises of a lot of small red flowers (tubular shaped). Each red flower is having four petals and holds four yellow stamen between the petals. Flower blooms more or less throughout the year, but best during the rainy season.
