Common Coleus - Solenostemon scutellarioides

Our today's flowering plant is Common Coleus. This plant basically native to Eastern Asian region. Botanical name of this lovely plant is Solenostemon scutellarioides. This plant pertains to the plant family Lamiaceae(mint family). Other common names of this plant are Flame Nettle, Painted Nettle, Painted leafs, Duckfoot, etc.



This is a garden flowering plant and popular for it's colorful leafs. This annual herb plan can grow up to 1 meter in height. Leafs are ovate shaped. Flowers are violet/purple in color(inflorescence). This plant used to propagate using cutting. Requires full sunlight to bring the color more brightly.

Ants are busy with collecting honey


This garden flower is now a days available in the parks, gardens, etc of Bangladesh(বাংলাদেশ). Since this plant is not native to our country, and also it is less known to our people, it doesn't have any Bangla(বাংলা) name(at least I don't know).
