কল্কের মতন দেখতে, তাই কলকে ফুল... এছাড়া আরো কয়েকটা নাম আছে, যেমন করবী, হলদে করবী, প্রভৃতি... হলুদ রঙের এই ফুল দেখতে সুন্দর, কিন্তু ফলটা হয় আবার বিষাক্ত... হালকা মিষ্টি গন্ধ যুক্ত এই ফুল দক্ষিন আমেরিকা অঞ্চলের ফুল... কিন্তু আমাদের দেশের আবহাওয়ায় এই ফুল অনেক সহজেই মানিয়ে নিয়েছে... রাস্তার পাশে, অথবা বাড়ির বাগানে এই ফুল প্রায়ই দেখা যায়... বাংলায় চিরল বলে একটা কথা আছে... মনে হয় এই গাছের পাতাকে চিরল বলাই চলে...
Botanical name of this flower is Thevetia peruviana. Its easily understandable from the botanical name that the flower is native to Peru of South America. It belongs to the plant family Apocynaceae. In English, this is known as Mexican Oleander, Yellow Oleander as it is closely relative with Nerium oleander. In Bangladesh, we call this flower as Kolke Ful(কলকে ফুল) for it's funnel shape. Also it is known as Korobi(করবী), Holud Korobi(হলুদ করবী), etc.
Kolke(কলকে ফুল) flowers are yellow in color and having a shape like funnel. Flower can be in white or orange, but yellow is most common. Flower is having a slight sweet fragrance. Leafs are slim and oleander like. Plant can grow from small to a medium sized(not often) tree. The whole plant use to produce white sap when torn or broken.
Kolke(কলকে ফুল) flower brings a nut like fruit which is extremely poisonous. Not sure why the people from Caribbean use to call this flower as Lucky Nut! Not only the fruit, in fact the whole plant is poisonous (specially if any part is ingested). But still this plant is having few medicinal uses(help yourself to find out).
This plant is widely seen at Bangladesh, specially as ornamental flowering plant. But I have captured the photos from Rajshahi(রাজশাহী) during June 2012 and from Khagrachhori(খাগড়াছড়ি) during July 2012.
