ঘাস তো কতই দেখি... নিজের অজান্তেই তো কত ঘাস মাড়িয়ে চলে যাই... কখনো হয়তো ভালো করে খেয়ালও করা হয় না ঘাসগুলিকে... কিন্তু প্রকৃতির তৈরী এই ঘাসকেও বংশ বিস্তার করতে হয়... যদিও বেশিরভাগ ঘাসের বিস্তার মূলের মাধ্যমেই হয়ে থাকে... তারপরও অনেক ঘাস আছে যারা কিনা সময় মতন ফুলের পসরা নিয়ে নিজেকে সাজায়... এবং তারপরও তা আমাদের চোখে খুব একটা পরে না... সেইরকম একটি ঘাস ফুলের নাম, নির্বিষী...
Nirbishi(নির্বিষী ফুল) is a grass flower. In fact it is a grass. Small flowers are prominent during rainy season. At other seasons we just trample these unnoticed grasses. It is being seen everywhere as long as there are grasses. Even at our dirty Dhaka city, you'll find these a lot beside the roads(if grass available).
Botanical name of this Nirbishi is Kyllinga monocephala. It pertains to the plant family Cyperaceae. This is native to our Bangladesh and Indian territory. So hardly any English or common name.
Like other grasses, this one is also found mixed with other grasses at the ground. Leafs are slim and slender, also glossy. This is favorite to the grazing animals like cows, goats etc. Color of it's flower is white, off white and the filaments are cream colored.
This grass is full of medicinal uses. It's leafs are using to sooth pains. Extracts of the roots have potential use for diabetic treatment. Though all of these uses are still at researching stage.
