বার হাত কাঁকুরের তের হাত বিচি... আজকের এই ফুলটা অনেকটা সেইরকম... গাছ চোখেই পড়ে না, কিন্তু বিশাল সাইজের একটা ফুল ফুটিয়ে বসে আছে... রাজশাহীর রাস্তার পাশে শয়ে শয়ে এই ফুল ফুটে আছে... ছোট গাছ, আর ফুলটা হয় আগেরকালের কলের গানের যন্ত্রের মতন... হালকা বেগুনি-নীল রঙের এই ফুলের বাংলা নাম মনে হয় "ধমনী" ফুল... আমি নিশ্চিত হয়ে বলতে পারছি না... কারো জানা থাকলে সাহায্য করো সনাক্ত করতে...
A trumpet shaped violet-blue colored flower is named Wild Petunia, cause it grows as a weed in wild. Botanical name is Ruellia prostrata with synonym Dipteracanthus dejectus. It belongs to the plant family Acanthaceae (Ruellia family). Possibly it is called as Dhomoni Ful(ধমনী ফুল) in our native language Bengali.
Wild Petunia is also known as Bell weed, Black weed, etc. Its basically a low growing small weed plant. Leafs are ovate/elliptical/lens shaped with corrugated texture and slight hairy. Flowers come from the leaf axils. Flowers are trumpet shaped and color is pale blue, light violet, etc.
This plant didn't look invasive to me. It can be used easily as an ornamental flower. The plant is not showy, but the flower is. Its a large flower if we compare the proportion of the plant and the flower.
Photos of this article were taken from Chapainawabganj(চাপাইনবাবগঞ্জ). But I have seen this flower a lot at Rajshahi(রাজশাহী) too. I was traveling there during June 2012.
